Zack Snyder's Justice League is a superhero film with a heavy burden on its shoulders; in addition to handling the introduction of one of the biggest superhero unions in comics, the movie will also be judged on the back of its predecessor, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, a film that was less-than-loved by fans and critics alike. It's well-known by now that there were some drastic shakeups at Warner Bros. following the movie's reception, along with the consistent message that future films in the DCEU would be more "fun" and "optimistic".
In an interview with Heroic Hollywood, Batman v Superman second unit director Damon Caro (who is also working on Justice League) explained that despite the lighter tone in upcoming films, Batman v Superman was always supposed to be the dark film in contrast to Justice League.
