BOX OFFICE: Disney Reaches $3 Billion Domestic for 2016; Makes Box Office History |

Not only has the domestic box office broken records in 2016, but Disney has as well! Universal Pictures was the domestic champion in 2015 with $2.4 billion thanks to Jurassic World and Furious 7. However, another studio took the crown in 2016. Disney has emerged the champion of the 2016 domestic box office and for the first time in any studio history, Disney is the first and only studio to reach $3 billion thanks to recent release Rogue One: Star Wars Story. Disney had 26.4% of the overall market share. Their 2016 total gross is about $750 million more than their 2015 gross. This is also the first time since 2003 that Disney won the domestic crown. Second place was Warner Bros with only $1.9 billion and 16.7% of the overall market share.
The 2016 year had a total of nine films making more than $300 million domestic, with five of them being Disney films. And three of those Disney films grossed over $400 million! Those include Captain America: Civil War ($408 Read more: |
