BOX OFFICE: THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Makes $21M On Friday; On Track For $65M Weekend PDF Print E-mail

Deadline reports that The Amazing Spider-Man made $21 million at the North American box office yesterday, putting it right on track for a six-day total of around $140 million. This is by no means a huge result on the scale of Marvel's The Avengers for the Marc Webb helmed superhero reboot, but as a Sony exec tells the site, "In the world of reboots it’s pretty spectacular." To put this into context for you, it's worth remembering that 2005's Batman Begins had an opening weekend of $48.7 million, while X-Men: First Class opened to $55.1 million last year. The Amazing Spider-Man on the other hand looks set for around $65 million in total. The site also mentions that, "Sony is fast-tracking the next installment of its new trilogy with fresh villains and storylines that should spark more interest in this too-soon reboot."
