Forbes reports that Marvel's The Avengers is set to finish its worldwide run with a little more than $1.5 billion in total (it's impossible to be too specific at this point as it doesn't open in Japan until next month). Joss Whedon's superhero ensemble currently sits comfortably at the #3 spot of all-time highest grossing movies and that's where it will end its run, although the fact that it didn't take the top spot certainly doesn't lessen its achievement. Domestically, it has currently accumulated $615.280 million, and is expected to finish at $616 million by the end of next month before going on sale on DVD and Blu-ray in September.
