BOX OFFICE: THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Breaks IMAX Records With $23.8 Million Worldwide PDF Print E-mail

Warner Bros. are being careful not to make too big of a deal out of how well The Dark Knight Rises has performed financially as a sign of respect for those affected by the Aurora shootings. However, the film has broken both domestic and worldwide IMAX records over the weekend according to The Hollywood Reporter. Domestically, the film earned $19 million from 332 screens, for an average of £57,200 per screen. It made an additional $4.8 million from 64 of the screens internationally ($75,000 per screen average), making a worldwide total of $23.8 million in 396 IMAX theatres ($60,100 per screen average). Internationally, it made the most in the UK with $1.57 million on 19 screens. With another 89 theatres set to start showing the film next weekend (including China), expect even more records to be broken by Christopher Nolan's epic finale.
