BOX OFFICE: THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Now Looks Set For A $163 Million Weekend PDF Print E-mail

Deadline reports that after taking roughly $77.2 million on Friday (giving it the third highest opening ever and the best gross in a single day for a 2D movie), The Dark Knight Rises dropped on Saturday with $46.2 million and is now expected to make $39.3 million today. That takes its 3-day weekend total to $163 million (give or take), although it's possible that figure will completely change by close of business today. Why? Well, Warner Bros. and various other tracking agencies have decided to withhold official domestic and worldwide numbers until Monday as a mark of respect to those affected by the shooting in Colorado. These estimates are usually fairly close to the final figure, but this is a very uncertain weekend as it is impossible to predict what kind of impact that tragedy has had on the box office performance of the highly anticipated finale to Christopher Nolan's Batman
