Captain America: The First Avenger Grosses More Internationally Than Domestically! |

Personally, I always found the belief that the "America" part of Captain America: The First Avenger a little ridiculous. While Marvel Studios decided to drop the first two words altogether in Russia, Ukraine and South Korea, they left it alone everywhere else, and it's seemingly paid off! The Hollywood Reporter have revealed some details about the movies international box office performance, and it looks like this is yet another hit for Marvel. Here is an excerpt from their report.
To date, the superhero tentpole has grossed $178 million internationally, compared to $173.5 million at the domestic box office. The overseas tally includes a strong $5 million opening in China over the Sept. 9-11 weekend. It’s hardly uncommon for a summer event pic -- and especially a 3D title -- to do bigger business internationally, but many assumed Captain America wouldn’t play as well among foreign audiences because of its title.
