COMIC BOOK HISTORY Who is SUPERMAN?     Superman is a DC Comics superhero. Created by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster in 1932. The character first appeared in Action Comics #1 (June 1938) and subsequently appeared in various radio serials, television programs, films, newspaper strips, and video games. With the success of his adventures, Superman helped to create the superhero genre. SUPERMAN's first Comicbook Appearance     The look of Superman was modeled after actor Douglas Fairbanks, while his alter ego, Clark Kent, was based on actor Harold Lloyd.     Superman was born Kal-El on the planet Krypton, before being rocketed to Earth as an infant by his scientist father Jor-El, moments before Krypton's destruction.     When his rocket landed on Earth, in a place called Smallville, he was discovered and adopted by a farmer and his wife.
