From the start of CBMs, their predecessors, the comic book themselves prided themselves in the origin stories. They were treated with utmost importance. Simply because, they help to make the character relatable. From Bruce Wayne being orphaned till Banner experimenting with gamma radiation, these stories were monumental in the development of our favorite characters today. Sometimes the origin story is key to future events from stories like how Spider-Man's origin involved him learning the lesson of handling one's vested power.
The latest The Dark Knight Rises sums up just exactly what a superhero's arc should be about. Just take a look at the clip below.
Of course, most of the time in CBMs, the origin story is not just limited to the protagonist, the hero. Sometimes, the origin could go over to the villain. Take Burton's Batman as an example.
