We've already heard from Kevin Feige regarding Thanos' next appearance in the MCU, and now Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 director James Gunn weighs in on why the Mad Titan won't show up in his sequel despite making his debut (well, if you don't count that brief Avengers post-credits scene) in the first film.
During an interview with Collider, Gunn explains that he wanted this story to focus on the relationship between Nebula and Gamora, without the looming presence of their adoptive father.
It’s about two sisters. It’s not about the sisters and their father. It’s about two sisters and what were the sisters’ problems with each other? And, you know, some of those things were caused by being raised by the ultimate abusive father. But it really isn’t about Thanos, and frankly, I just wasn’t inspired to put him in the movie.
