Entertainment Weekly has revealed some new details about the wheel shaped space station we've seen a squadron of X-Wings attacking in the trailers and TV spots for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Apparently, it's a Shield Gate which hovers above Scarif, a tropical planet which the Empire has covered with an impenetrable force field to protect what the site calls a remote weapons development facility.
"You can see the blue sheen surrounding the entire planet," Rogue One co-producer John Swartz reveals. "The shield gate is the security. As Imperial ships and cargo comes through, it punches a hole in the shield so they can pass. The gate officer gives clearances as they give out their call signs."
