Deadline have their early analysis of last night at US box office, and it looks as if Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance will struggle to reach the top spot this weekend as it faces off against holdover The Vow. A big budget 3D superhero movie being beaten by a critically panned romantic comedy is something of an embarrassment for the studio. It's likely that it will only just end up missing out, although one Sony exec told them yesterday that it, "could go higher as the night goes on". The gap is a narrow one, but the first movie made $45M during its opening weekend in the US and over $115M in total, considerably more than the Neveldine/Taylor helmed sequel is expected to earn.
