Multiple sources have confirmed tonight that esteemed British actor John Hurt has died at the age of 77.
Hurt's illustrious career spanned over five decades, starting in 1962 when he debuted in the British romantic drama The Wild and the Willing. He went on to star in over 130 films, which earned him two Academy Award nominations, a Golden Globe win, four BAFTA Awards, and much more.
Hurt will be remembered by audiences for his brilliant and captivating performances in a number of acclaimed dramas, including The Elephant Man and Midnight Express. Hurt was also no stranger to the world of sci-fi and fantasy, leaving his mark as Gilbert Kane in 1979's Alien where he brought to life one of the most iconic horror sequences ever depicted on film.
