Spike Lee's remake of Oldboy, a 2003 South Korean film which was in turn based on a manga, has recently begun production. Not too long ago, we heard that actor Nate Parker would be re-teaming with his Red Hook Summer director for the revenge thriller, but it has now been reported that he has dropped out of Oldboy due to his commitment to the Liam Neeson-starrer Non-Stop. Variety reports that Parker's role has been filled by James Ransone, who was most recently seen in Sinister. Little is known about Ransone's character, other than the fact that he's a doctor who works with Elizabeth Olsen's character. Josh Brolin, Sharlto Copley and Samuel L. Jackson also star in the film, which was picked up by US film distributer FilmDistrict last month. Oldboy currently has no release date set, but is expected to debut in theaters in 2013.
