It looks like we may have our Roland Dechain. Deadline report that Javier Bardem(No Country For Old Men) has been offered the role of the gunslinger in Ron Howard's multi platformed adaptation of Stephen King's hugely popular novels/comic books.

I'm told that Bardem has officially been offered the lead role by director Ron Howard and Universal Pictures. While formal negotiations haven't yet begun, there's a high level of enthusiasm internally that they've got their cowboy.
Viggo Mortenson was apparently a contender too, with Christian Bale mentioned in connection with the role only earlier today. Bardem was recently nominated for an Academy Award for his turn as a terminally ill street hustler in the Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu-directed Biutiful. Howard will be directing the first instalment of the franchise, and the following tv segment leading into the second movie. Deadline shed a bit more light as to what the plans are after that..
