We all knew it was likely to be pushed back to late 2012 or 2013, but now the news has come direct from the studio that Star Trek 2 will now act as the studios Summer tentpole in 2013, going up against the likes of Iron: Man 3 and Superman: Man of Steel.
That's official word from Philippe Dauman, chief executive of Viacom, the parent company of Paramount Pictures, the studio behind the rebooted Star Trek franchise.

J.J. Abrams is "focused on developing the next installment of our Star Trek franchise" for a potential release in 2013, the CEO said during his company's quarterly earnings call.
