Many fans were fond of referring to The Hunger Games (until the movie actually came out of course) as "the next Twilight", and now that is almost certain to start up again for the sequel. Think McFly Think have posted an article linking Pattinson to the role of Finnick Odair, a former tribute, described as something of a ladies man, who gets dragged into the Third Quarter Quell (a Hunger Games contested by previous winners).
Francis Lawrence took over directing duties on the Hunger Games sequel when Gary Ross opted out. Pattinson has previously starred in Water For Elephants under Lawrence, so there is that connection. Of course that could also be where the rumor sprang from too.
