Doctor Strange was one of Marvel's biggest gambits ever last year, with murmurs circulating, ahead of release, about whether or not the general audience would accept such a uniquely obscure character, but luckily for Marvel, they absolutely did and the Scott Derrickson-directed feature skyrocketed itself to widespread critical acclaim and a worldwide box office haul of over $659.9 million.
The character, played by Academy Award-nominee & Primetime Emmy-winner Benedict Cumberbatch, is now expected to make an appearance in Taika Waititi's Thor: Ragnarok before joining the Avengers, possibly full-time, in Avengers: Infinity War and the untitled Avengers 4 (both of which started film this past Monday). As for his own second solo outing, it's been awfully quiet on that front, maybe too quiet, but considering that they announced a sequel to Peyton Reed's Ant-Man just around three months after its theatrical release, an official announcement on Doctor Strange 2 could be just around the corner.
