In the 1987 series Catherine Chandler was a wealthy socialite working for her father's law firm in NYC as a corporate lawyer. She is attacked one night, tossed into a van and has her face slashed. She is warned to keep her mouth shut, and is finally dumped in Central Park where Vincent (The Beast) finds her. He scoops her up and takes her into his world, tunnels underneath the city. He mends her wounds and looks after her for ten days until she has fully recovered. During this time Vincent realizes he has an empathic bond with Catherine.
Once recovered Catherine returns to her world, but she dramatically changes her life for the good. She quits her job, and becomes an investigator at the DA's office.
