The Green Hornet Takes An Underwhelming Lead At The Box Office! |

Despite reports that the movie was expected to bring in around $45-50 million for the four-day Martin Luther King day weekend in the US, it looks more likely that it'll be nearer the $40 million mark after something of an underwhelming opening yesterday. However, The Green Hornet did hit the #1 spot seeing off competition from Oscar hopefulls like True Grit and The King's Speech.
In total, the Michel Gondry directed flick took in $11.5 million. This isnt a bad start by any means, and although it's unlikely that it'll beat the four-day Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend record (currently held by Cloverfield at $46 million) it should have little trouble overtaking 2009's Paul Blart: Mall Cop $39.2m) and last years The Book of Eli ($38.4m).
For most January releases, an opening like this one would be more than adequate, but with a budget rumoured to be somewhere around $125-150 million and |
