Now that we're in August, the month of filming's commencement, more details surrounding the production of Marvel's anticipated Thor followup, Thor: The Dark World, are expected to unveil. And now another potential shooting location for the Alan Taylor-helmed installment has surfaced. According to "reliable sources" of an Icelandic site, Svarthofdi, principal photography for Thor: The Dark World is set to take place partly in the Nordic European island country of Iceland. Beyond relating to Norse mythology, Iceland is familiar to director Alan Taylor, considering he has filmed portions of Game of Thrones in the country (pictured below). And according to leading star Chris Hemsworth, Taylor's ultimate approach to the sequel is having less green-screen and more on-location surroundings. And other tentpole films that have filmed there include Prometheus, Batman Begins, and most recently, Oblivion and Darren Aronofsky‘s Noah among others.
