The Dark Knight was a hit with both fans and critics, as well as the first comic book movie to make $1 billion at the box office. While a lot of the attention which surrounded the film was due to the tragic death of Heath Ledger, his performance as The Joker would eventually win him a posthumous Oscar, while the effect of the film on both cinema and comic book movies was undeniable.
