Presented to Bendis was the question of what it was about THIS version of Spider-Man that separates it from the various animated incarnations that have aired over the decades. "The other Spider-Man shows were produced by other people," says Bendis. "Now Marvel is its own studio. This is about Peter Parker trying to be the best version of himself he possibly can. Nick Fury, who is in charge of the Marvel universe, challenges him to accept his offer to train him to be the ultimate Spider-Man. Every episode is like a little, cool travelogue for the Marvel universe -- they get to meet these other superheroes and learn something from them. It's also surprisingly funny -- people forget how funny Spider-Man is." Moving on to the subject of the FX adaptation of his comic Powers, he updates, "The pilot is done, and based on the strength of that, FX has ordered more scripts.
