According to Deadline, Universal Pictures is moving forward with a live-action adaptation of Voltron. The original Japanese anime aired between 1984 - 1985 and quickly developed a massive fan base despite not being around all that long. A one off special would follow in 1986, while another short-lived animated series debuted in 1998. Nickelodeon tried to reboot the property in 2011, but that too lasted only 26 episodes. A second season of Voltron Legendary Defender will hit Netflix in January. The movie is being produced by Tom Engelman (The Lone Ranger), while David Hayter (Watchmen) has been hired to pen the screenplay. Attempts to develop a live-action Voltron have been attempted before, but they've never materialised. Whether or not this one will remains to be seen, but Universal is moving forward with a Pacific Rim sequel, so it's hardly a surprise that they'd give this property a try.
