Edgar Rice Burroughs' first novel in the famous Barsoom series, A Princess of Mars, was a project many filmmakers tried to make as a feature film. From John McTiernan and Robert Rodriguez, to Kerry Conran and Jon Favreau. There was even a feature-length animated film in development in early 1930s and it was supposed to be released around 1936, but things fell apart. If that film was released, before Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1938), it would have been the first American feature-length animated film. To say that it has been a long journey for this character is an understatement.
