Filmonic report that Matthew Vaughn's critically acclaimed contribution to the X-Men franchise is set to make around $120 million worldwide during it’s opening weekend. The official numbers won't actually be available until early next week, but it's currently believed that X-Men: First Class brought in roughly $56 million at the US box office and $64 million elsewhere from 74 territories.
"The movie really excelled in successfully launching a brand new chapter in the X-Men franchise, or new beginning if you will," Fox senior vice president of domestic distribution Chris Aronson said.
The fact that the movie opened on a Wednesday internationally is bound to have helped these figures, and with a budget of $170 million, it's looking likely that the movie will make a tidy profit which will surely ensure a sequel.
